Armenian Day

Unless you were hibernating somewhere far away, you have certainly heard about the Armenian day which took place at the Université Antonine campus in Baabda on Friday May 20th, 2016

A rich program was tailored leaving the crowd excited and eager for next year’s edition.

A mass according to the Armenian rite was celebrated at 11.30am, followed by a video projection which included a special message from the Minister of Education of Armenia, a CNN report dedicated to the commemoration of the 100th anniversary of the Armenian genocide, a report about Armenian inventors and more.

A special ceremony honored a number of prestigious religious and artistic figures. Students were invited to write their names in Armenian on a three meter wide board which is now preserved within the premises of the University. Those with a competitive taste took part in various sports activities where Haygazian University’s team was invited as well.

The cherry on top was definitely the list of performances on stage that started at 6pm with Pierre Chamassian, ChiNN’s crew and Ghassan Rahbani’s band.

One lucky winner left home with a VIP ticket to the Euro games in France which will be held this coming June.

The idea of this festival, which occurs each year on Founder’s day, began 4 years ago when one of the Université Antonine’s students suggested that teachers, students and members of the University gather in May, before the end of the semester, break the academic cycle and have fun. To make it more challenging, the organizers came up with the idea to honor each year one specific country, through music, food, exhibitions and such events, leaving the guests both entertained and enriched. After Italy and Spain, it was only natural to pick Armenia whose community in Lebanon is richness to the country’s history and culture.
